Artifact 1

Even in the First Age, most of the day to day enforcement of laws was performed by mortal officers. During times when budgets were forthcoming, various members of the Deliberative argued for the creation of tools to help these peacekeeper. One of these was a magical badge which aided in such duties. Typically these peacekeeper badges were golden eight pointed stars, usually containing a trace of orichalcum in their alloy. Sometimes they were the personal mark of authority of one of the Solar dominions. Most of these badges were destroyed during the Shogunate era, seized as heretical signs and melted down in the forges of Dragon-Blooded warlords.

A badge of the peacekeeper requires an attunement of one mote or one Willpower to keep it active. While active, the player of the wearer may add one die to all direct efforts to intentionally enforce the law of the land. Conversely, all actions taken by the wearer which violate the law suffer a one die internal penalty, even if the wearer is unaware that the action is illegal or if the violation is accidental.

Because the badges' benefits are tied to knowledge, there was a subtle encouragement for the peacekeepers to be well informed about the law. Corrupt officers were more likely to be discovered due to their decreased criminal competence. Unfortunately, the law of a ruthless dictator is as binding as that of a benevolent ruler. A peacekeeper must endure the laws of the domain in which he currently stands.
