Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. -- The 16th President

Description

Ky is a Black Winged western person of the air. As common for his people he has a bronzed skin tone, slender build, sharp, striking facial features, and golden, hawkish eyes. His hair is black and dreadlocked, though there was a period when he wore it in a mohawk. While he appears slender from a distance, he is very muscular when you get a close look at him. His civillian clothing is often plain, but he also a has custom tailored admiral's uniform.

Day 1

Still Water asked me to keep a journal of my thoughts and writings. I am going to. One day my Exaltation will be able to read my thoughts and maybe understand her position. Also, these writings will be available to the people of this county. They will be able to relate to me, my race, and my Solars better.

I am Ky Aria, Exalted Dawn Caste. I am 14 months old. I was created with the body of an 18 year old by a Solar, Minister Togeri Oarman. He inherited his position of Aurealian Minister from the man I inherited my Essence from, Ebon Surf Chaser. I served under the Aurealian Minister / Admiral Surf Chaser since my creation to defend this island. I feel that it is a good thing I got to know him and observe him. I have inherited his writings and have been reading them.

When I was made, we were trained by Ebon and my body and skills were enhanced using Solar charms. Being created and trained for war and defending the home seemed like a birthright. Most of my fellow People of the Air were proud to be serving their life's purpose. Minister Oarman had told us on several occasions that some never understood their purpose or why they were created and that we should enjoy the fact that we had no such questions.

I believed them. Now I have been given the right by the Unconquered Sun to question and to want for myself and others. I want to fight for the right of my people to live normal lives. I don't know how hard it will be, but I have been given power and training by the Sun and the Solars.

Day 3

Shepherd of the Lost is another Solar. He belongs to a group known as the Cult of the Illuminated. He says that we Solars are the shining ones who are to lead creation back to glory. I like this idea. I have been reading Ebon's writings and a manuscript that Shepherd gave me. I think it is natural for Solars to want to lead people to glory. I think that they forget about the people they are leading and lead them to be leading them.

I understand Ebon better now. He felt at home here and took this country personally. It reminded him of where he grew up, before it was destroyed. I think he was sad. The other Solars think he was insane though. They don't say it out loud, but they talk like they want to say it but don't. He thought that training us was good. He wanted us to be able to protect ourselves. I wonder why he never had every one on the island learn trained with him then? Maybe I will ask Togerie.

Day 32

Togerie has been training the whole island. I have been staying near where we were created. It has been under attack by Skullstone, but we aren't too bad off I suppose. I have been experimenting with my Essence and learning Charms.

A woman from the Cult of the Illuminated visited me. She asked for me to help them train other Solars the way Ebon trained me. She gave me a gift in exchange for my word. I don't have any other plans so I will try to help them.

I like being out here. I don't like fighting, but I don't think that I can make them leave otherwise. I didn't realize that Ebon had this much power available to him. I have promised myself that I will try to remember what being one of us is like. I don't want to hurt people. I want to see them safer.

Day 34

People are unhappy with Togerie. They are scared of me too. I think they think I am a Fair Folk. Ebon said that the dead and Fey weren't trustworthy and were enemies of creation. I know that the dead are dangerous, but I don't know about the Fair Folk. They seem like us and like to pretend to be us.

There isn't famine, but people are working really hard to keep food growing with fewer workers. Most people are spending their time being trained by Oarman. He says that he has a plan and a schedule. He also says that we need to be ready to build wonders to defend the island. He has brought great things to us. The food shortage would be worse if it wasn't so fast to get food from Antar. His Iron Ox brings it in under a day.

Training in Irontooth

While Still Water is not a Solar Exalt, she has been useful in my training. I have been developing my sense of awareness for a few days, and I believe that I can use Essence to become permanently aware of my surroundings. She has found texts from the "First Age" which describe methods of doing so.

Today I was dodging raindrops. Well, not raindrops, I was dodging beads of water being flicked from a broom by Still Water. I was blindfolded, and my back was to her, and my ears were stopped up, and the room was dark, and once I was asleep. Most of the time I get wet, but I think I managed to miss some of them today. I'm not sure, I was still damp from before.

She says that I still have the energy of Ebon, but I don't have the same anger. I don't under stand her. I asked her to give me an example but she couldn't. She did say I didn't have his temper. She also said a fire god didn't have his temper. She says I am frustrated, and that I seem like I have something to prove and that I don't know what. I don't know what I have to prove either. She suggested I take tonight off and move among the locals. I won't have the problems that we usually have with the locals, I am a Solar and they have to behave around me.

How should I feel when I am around mortals? Before I Exalted they barely tolerated me and my kind. Now they tolerate my kind and pretend to respect me. What if I die in battle tomorrow? Will the work we have done simply undo? Spurok respects us now. We fought for them against Skullstone for months.

I need to talk to the Aurelian Minister about taking the new ones there for their training. It will be easier for us. I will also have to ask them what they want. Maybe I should take them to Antar for school instead. Teach them to read, do math, be normal people and not soldiers. Maybe I should let them choose.

Letting them choose so soon is hard though, they may just want to follow me out of habit or sense of duty. Or worse, they will do what the Minister tells them to do out of conviction. I do have to ask though. That will be right. Yes, I will ask them. I will also ask them why they made that choice. I will respect their choice and acknowledge their reason. Even if it is still some side effect of their creation, that choice and reason is still theirs and still sacred.

Maybe I will go out tonight. I wonder what the bar Ebon destroyed looks like now...
