I wish I had made this Exalted Second Edition core book stone's writeup explicitly say:

A character using this Hearthstone subtracts his full soak (enhanced by the stone) from any fire damage, and may reduce fire damage all the way to 0, ignoring minimum damage values.

Notes

The above is the change that I think should definitely be made to this stone. As written in the core book, the stone wouldn't even prevent you from being pinged to death by a mundane campfire, and I wanted to change that. Below, I wanted to discuss the issue further, but I am not proposing the remainder of this actually be adopted.

Of course, it potentially could have just been a blanket immunity to fire/heat rather than a soak bonus. Certainly one way of interpreting the level 3 Hearthstone that takes from Fire Aspects suggests that it might do that PLUS cause fire damage. If that is what was meant by the Gem of White Heat, then it doesn't seem out of line, to me, for a level 2 Hearthstone to only protect from fire/heat. To be fair, the Fire Aspect power doesn't say it protects against heat, just fire, and 2nd edition errata even claims that is "natural fire" which is not a restriction that 1st edition mentioned.
