History
Silk Staff was born Cynis Maru, a Dynast who was raised in Greyfalls. His story is not a unique one; the decadence of his house, and the estranged bastion of the Realm, sickened him. He knew that there was more to life than simply seeking carnal pleasures. It was in the teachings of the Immaculate Order that he found solace. Everything in Creation has its place, and it is the duty of those Chosen by the Dragons to shepherd Creation. With power comes responsibility, and power in itself is not an end, but a means -- lessons that many Dragon-touched seem to have forgotten, especially since the disappearance of the Empress.
So Maru showed up on the steps of the temple in his most humble attire, which was a brown silk robe. Sister Cloud Hands, the head of the Order in Greyfalls, was amused by this, and gave him the name of "Silk." Every time he heard the name, it made him feel shame for the House that he was born into. Sister Cloud Hands had done this on purpose, of course -- a lesson in humility. After a few years of training, both martial (for which Silk had a natural affinity) and philosophical, the Sister sent him off to continue his training on the Imperial Mountain, with Abbot Vaicha.
On the slopes of the Imperial Mountain, removed from his birthplace and the world at large, Silk was able to clear his thoughts and attain an even greater level of enlightenment. His good heart and soft manner earned him the Abbot's endearment, and he soon became a favored pupil. Vaicha taught him the intricacies of the Grand Tetsubo, the most revered weapon of the Earth Immaculate style. Here again, Silk was a quick study, and with his solid build and broad shoulders he wielded the great weapon with the ease with which a normal man would handle a staff. So, Vaicha renamed him Silk Staff.
On one fateful day, Silk's meditations were interrupted by a rather loud noise. Investigating to see what the hubbub was, a group of Dragon-Blooded on a Stormwind Rider seemed to be the cause. This group met with the abbot, who took a battered footlocker into custody from them, which he said to be important. He also gave the disturbing news that the group brought: an army of Fair Folk was flooding down the mountainside. When the abbot asked for volunteers to help fight these creatures of chaos, of course Silk was among the first to volunteer. So Vaicha sent Silk along with the group, lending him a robe of silken armor to keep him safe. This gift was also lent to him, ironically, to keep him humble, for Vaicha knew well the story of hos Silk received his name.
Appearance
Silk is a somewhat short man, standing no more than five and a half feet tall, but he has a stocky, broad-shouldered frame. His years spent training on the Imperial Mountain have given him a tanned, almost leathery complexion, and his dark brown eyes are very expressive. His smile is infectious, and he is usually smiling softly. He tends to keep his gaze downcast whenever he is not speaking with someone, and his voice is soft -- almost a whisper, but at the same time deep, so it carries well for such a soft tone.
