“Never underestimate the skills of those below you”, this was the most important lesson Artur ever taught me. My Solar mate had me learn sorcery from Eng Raku, a mortal in the Humanity Project. I found delicious irony in his death at the hands of the Terrestrials, those below him. I do not know if he underestimated them, or if they over took him.

When I was 118, I thought they took him from me. I received word from a Loyalist that the Usurpation had begun and the Obsidian Pearl of the Great Western Ocean had been destroyed during transit. I began to search for his reincarnation, it would be needed in the war.

When I found him he was still alive, but the Pearl... It had crashed into a barren desert island. We managed to patch some of the damage, but the manse was ruined. Artur had me go out and bring what was left of his men and his weapons to him. I moved among the mortals and showed them the way to him.

He called me back within four days. Word was spreading rapidly of the efficacy of the slaughter. Two hundred solars had been cut down. Clepsys was sinking into the sea. The southern Titan had been destroyed. I returned with only one hundred thousand mortals, two thousand Terrestrials, and a small cache of artifact weapons. We were prepared to make the final stand on the ruins of his manse. The Dragon-Blooded army blocked out the Sun when their ships arrived.

He sent me away when they came to the island to finish the job. He told me that it was my responsibility to make sure that his Essence received his training and his mission.

I never saw Artur again. I fled with the Silver Pact into the Wyld. We fought against the behemoths which held creation away. I never felt that familiar pull. I never dreamed with that smell which always accompanied him. In all my lives, I always remembered his smell and now, for the first time, it was gone.

Five years ago, I smelled his sea. My pack also noticed their Mates return. I have not decided what I mean to do. A thousand years of patrolling Creation's rim has changed me. The feelings I felt for him have been forged into a strange nostalgia. I recognize that they are not true, but they are real.

I will listen for a man of gold who raises mortals above their station. It was his way then, it will be his way again. I have already left my place in the South to find that island with the Pearl. Maybe, he will be there waiting.

Artur, I come for your sea.
